Johnny English is retired in Tibet and in disgrace in MI-7 after a washed up mission in Mozambique. Out of the blue, he is summoned by the MI-7 to stop the Vortex, an agency of skilled assassins that are planning to kill the Chinese premier Xiang Ping. Johnny English is back in action with the support of the rookie Agent Tucker. But he is betrayed by someone that he would never expect.
Johnny English 1 was awesome. It was logical. Everything seemed genuine and completely coincidental. I waited for Johnny English 2. Many of us waited for Johnny English 2. But the Johnny English sequel that I wanted to see never came. Instead, what we got was a over repetitive, dry and basically non entertaining film. One of the things that bothered me most was the dick-strengthening exercise. I don't mean that I hate the scene, in fact I laughed at those scenes justmuchanyone else. Just that it is disturbing how once those MPAA jackasses see Rowan Atkinson, they instantly loosen their guard and give the film a mere rating of PG. What ever the film portrayed was much more vulgar than PG. For example, the scene where Mr. English pets a "good pussy". I think that it would be hilarious and extremely vulgar for someone to just take that tiny excerpt and post it on he internet. Rowan Atkinson talking about pussy. Hilarious. Anyway, another ridiculous thing in the movie was the "Hong Kong" bit. It was extremely strange for me to see that Hong Kong has a casino, because believe it or not, the casino nearest to Hong Kong is in Macau. In Johnny English 1, they just stated "France", but in Johnny English 2, they didn't state "China" or state separate place-names for "Macau" and "hong Kong". Also, it was unentertaining to see Johnny beat up the Chinese so easily. Anyone with fighting experience knows that there are counter-actions for these simple attacks like swinging a giant drumstick. Johnny English is implying that Chinese kung fu is useless in hand-to-hand combat against simple punches.<br/><br/>The old-lady killer joke was also extremely boring. After a while it just gets old, and turns from funny to awkward. Many of the other jokes were unoriginal at all, being cheap rip-offs from other spy-detective comedies like The Naked Gun, where you could clearly identify the mind control joke. If all those democrats and liberals are so damn active, why don't they do something about the racial intolerance in the movie towards the Chinese? I mean, if "nigger" is racist towards black people, then "chimp" is racist towards Asians. Another issue is that Johnny English 2 just isn't the sameJohnny Englsh 1 anymore. It didn't have the atmosphere of the old movie, where Johnny actually made hilarious mistakes. All in All, Johnny English 2 sucks, unless you are 10 years old.
I love British humor, especially when it comes from Benny Hill or Dave Allen. British humor is more subdued and simple, not like American humor, which is more in your face and has become more sophomoric in recent years because of the direction of people like Tom Shadyac and the Farrelly Brothers. You won't get volumes of gay and bathroom humor from England because their humor goes back to before Hollywood was making movies. Their country gave us Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel among others. The only drawback to the Johnny English movies is their unrelenting capacity for utterly embarrassing the character in wildly elaborate situations. Rowan Atkinson is a slapstick genius. He can bend his body and contort his face into wildly exaggerated expressions of his emotions, but he is most funny when he tries to act suave and elite because deep down he knows he really isn't. He's putting on a face when deep down he really wants to be a clown. The movie picks up several years after his last appearance. Ben Millerthe affable Bough and the beautiful Natalia ImbrugliaInterpol agent Lorna Campbell are sadly unavailable, but their spirits are filled in by Rosamund Pikeagent Kate Summer and Daniel Kaluuyathe sidekick Colin Tucker. Following a monster blunder that sees him stripped of his knighthood, English has retreated into hiding in Tibet, but an informant arises that can spill news on what really happened on that disastrous mission and soon Johnny is embroiled in a new adventure that may (or may not) restore his honor. Along the way, MI7 has been taken over by the public sector and runa conglomerate under a larger company. Gillian Anderson plays his new superior Pegasus, without the signature red hair we knew her bestpart of the "X-Files." Johnny is a better stronger agent now, but he still screws up royally when his ego inflates, and he feels most sure of himself. That's where the best humor works, but when Johnny embarrasses himself, we feel his painwella conviction to want to slap him around a bit, tell him what he's doing wrong and then try and give him a pat to the back. Overall, the movie is equal bits of action and comedy, but it is definitely enjoyable and fun to watch even with all the crotch jokes.
Even the most desperately deprived secret-agent devotee will find little to cheer in this yawn-tastic 007 send-up.
